S is for Savvy

Last post of the year. Not a good one. Histology report came back today on Savvy’s mammary mass surgery, she had it removed Christmas Eve. To sum up terms like “highest grade”,  “malignant” and “aggressive” were used and the margins were not clear.  For now we wait till her surgical site is fully recovered and then we proceed. We’ll probably refer for a specialist oncologist consult just in case there’s any other possibility of extending her chances for a longer quality of life beyond what supportive care will offer. At this stage it’s definite that it will grow back and rapidly,  I suspect neither chemo or radiation will stop that. For now we will spend as much quality time with her as possible and ensure she enjoys the best that life has to offer. Currently Savvy is completely oblivious to all this and is her usual happy Savvy self in her Savvy world. We will keep it that way for as long as we can. Remember to revel in all the moments you share with your dogs – for even the most mundane moments will feel like the biggest treasures when you no longer have them.
