Save me San Francisco! The Rock in Pictures

Had to listen to Train on the car tunes on the way here – got us in the perfect mood for ‘Frisco 🙂 Arrived, found hotel (it’s in San Bruno about 15 – 20 mins by car from downtown SF) was suitably pleasantly surprised by quality of hotel for price, then ventured down to Fisherman’s Wharf and our Alcatraz night tour.

I am LOVING my 3200 – but I said that about my Nikon 5100 so here’s to hoping it doesn’t go the same path!

These photos were taken from Pier 43 which we walked out to the end on. My lens let me get quite close and detailed onto Alcatraz.

BY THE WAY – anytime you want to view these images bigger just click on them 🙂

This guy (perhaps girl?) flew past us and I was able to snap one decent shot out of several 😉

The following photos were all taken by me on the boat over to Alcatraz and on the island itself.

This is one of my favourite shots – taken along the West walk side of Alcatraz, the sun was totally cooperating with me.

OMG! Looking after you is very tiring!

In case you were wondering yes, I can fit your whole head in here.

But you have kinda grown on me with your fuzzy cuteness so there is that.

These ones were definitely the more shy, retiring type. Not up for many photo ops at all.

All these birds flying round and not one drop of guano on either of us. I’m calling that a sign.

Segregation was definitely in practice on Alcatraz. These guys had NOTHING to do with all those riff raff gulls and seemingly there was a peaceful accord over territory control on the island.

This was the view of Golden Gate Bridge from the Recreation Yard of the Prison.

This photo here is untouched. I loved the light we got doing this trip in the evening. We’ve both done Alcatraz before but only on the midday tour so this was a perfect opportunity to grab the perfect light of dusk.

This was taken on our way back to getting on the boat, it’s one of my three favourite shots I managed to take.

The sturdy vessel that steered us back to the wharf.
